Back home after dropping one on the road on Monday, the Red Sox (3-3) will look to close the gap in the East as they sit 1 ½ games back of the first-place Orioles (4-1), who hit the road for the first time this season.
Boston is coming off a tough 2-1 defeat to the Detroit Tigers on Monday in a matchup of dueling aces between the Red Sox Chris Sale and Detroit’s Justin Verlander.
On the injury front for the Red Sox, OF Jackie Bradley Jr. is expected to make a 10-day stint on the DL with a knee injury, while LHP David Price, who’s been on the DL with an elbow strain threw a bullpen session as he hopes to be back soon. But, it doesn’t stop there as the Red Sox have been hit hard by the flu bug with many of their key players too sick to play.
With the start of an eight-game homestand, the Red Sox will hand the ball to left-hander Drew Pomeranz, who will be making his season debut. In his lone start against the Orioles last season, he was hit hard for five runs in just two innings of work.
On the Baltimore side of the ball, they will counter the Boston bats with right-hander Dylan Bundy (1-0, 1.29 ERA). Bundy is coming off a strong performance last Wednesday in which he went seven strong innings allowing just one run on four hits to the Toronto Blue Jays. Bundy struck out eight batters to help his team to a 3-1 home victory.
Now making his first start on the road, let’s see if the young right-hander can get his team off to a strong start in what will be a short two-game series.
Back home in the comforts of Fenway Park, the Red Sox are expected to start getting players back but as we take a look at the pitching matchups, both hurlers have been roughed up by the opposition. For sportsbetting purposes for our US players, MyBookie is favoring BOS (-125 ML) over BAL with an over/under of 9.5 total game runs scored from 5Dimes.
Expecting the offenses to rule this one, I will favor the OVER of 9.5 total game runs scored as my best betting pick.
