Slumping in a big way, the Toronto Blue Jays will be out to find their offense when they take to the field at the Rogers Centre on Friday night in Game 2 of this four game set against the Baltimore Orioles in a matchup that has the following betting lines from our best sportsbooks;
Best Orioles Lines: BetOnline ML (+131) Spread +1.5
Best Blue Jays Lines: Bovada ML (-148) Spread -1.5
Over/Under: 5Dimes 8.0
After dealing with 18 consecutive scoreless innings, the Blue Jays were finally able to push over a run on Thursday but it wasn’t enough as they fell to the first-place Orioles (6-2) to fall to 1-8 in the early going. And with their sixth straight loss, Toronto has fallen to 5 ½ games back of the division lead in the East.
Making matters worse for the Blue Jays as they are looking for answers in finding their bats is the impending loss of third baseman Josh Donaldson, who suffered a calf injury running out an RBI double in the sixth inning.
Donaldson is not expected to be on the diamond come Friday as both teams will continue their long weekend series.
For Baltimore, they have defeated the Jays in all three games thus far, including two at Camden Yards to begin the season.
And as the O’s seek to continue their winning ways, they will hand the ball to left-hander Wade Miley (0-0, 0.00 ERA), which for the Blue Jays may be good news in facing a southpaw as they are 0-8 versus right-handers thus far?
Miley received a no-decision his last time out last Sunday against the New York Yankees and when facing the Blue Jays is 1-4 in six career starts with a 5.57 ERA.
Countering Miley and the Baltimore bats will be right-hander Aaron Sanchez, who at 0-0 with a 1.29 ERA led the American League in 2016 with a 3.00 ERA. Sanchez is coming off a no-decision against the Tampa Bay Rays and in 13 career outings with eight starts against the Orioles is 5-2 with a 3.88 ERA.
While, the Blue Jays may finally see some success versus a pitcher they have handled, there will still be plenty of concern around the status of Donaldson. For sportsbetting purposes for our US players, Bovada is favoring TOR (-148 ML) over BAL with an over/under of 8.0 total game runs scored from 5Dimes.
Liking the offenses from both teams in this contest against these pitchers, I will favor the OVER of 8.0 total game runs scored as my best betting pick.
