CLEM vs. BAMA
#2 Clemson Tigers (13-1) at #1 Alabama Crimson Tide (14-0)
January 9, 2017- 8:00 PM ET (TV ESPN) Raymond James Stadium, Tampa Bay, FL
In a rematch from last year’s epic thriller, two of the nation’s best will cap off the college football season with what figures to be another classic of a duel as the No. 2 Clemson Tigers and No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide will play for it all on Monday night in prime-time with the betting lines as follow;
Best Tigers Lines: 5Dimes Spread (+6.5) ML +215
Crimson Tide Lines: Bovada Spread (-6) ML -220
Over/Under: MyBookie 50.5
Raymond James Stadium in Tampa Bay will be the site of what has the all the makings to be just as good if not better than last season’s championship game as the Crimson Tide will seek to defend their title, but with one small twist and that is having to do to with a new offensive coordinator in Steve Sarkisian. Sarkisian will be trust into action with the play calling duties up in the booth as former OC Lane Kiffin parted ways with head coach Nick Saban and Alabama last week.
Sarkisian was an offensive analyst for the Crimson Tide all season long but will now will handed the reigns of directing heralded true freshman sensation Jalen Hurts to find a way to put enough points on the board against what is a stout Clemson defense.
Alabama is loaded with plenty of weapons on the offensive side, but how will Sarkisian fare in making it all blend together?
But when it comes to Alabama and what they have been able to accomplish this season, much of their success has revolved around their nasty defense.
And for the Crimson Tide defense, they will be greatly tested against a high-powered Clemson offense led by junior QB Deshaun Watson. Watson and Hurts are two field generals who are able to get it done with both their arms and legs as they will no doubt put the pressure on the opposing defenses.
The quarterback comparison has Hurts throwing for 2,649 yards with 22 touchdowns to nine picks, whereas Watson went wild hurling for 4,173 yards with 38 touchdowns, but threw an uncharacteristic 17 interceptions.
And when it comes to trying to beat the Crimson Tide, limiting mistakes to a bare minimum must be the No. 1 priority. Can the vaulted Alabama defense do enough in getting to Watson to disrupt his flow? In last season’s championship game, it was the Tide who outlasted the Tigers 45-40 to win it all and hoist the hardware. For this year’s contest, Bovada is favoring BAMA (-6) points over CLEM, while 5Dimes is giving the underdog Tigers (+6.5) points.
MyBookie delivers the over/under at 50.5 total game points scored. Playing the spread in what should be a closer than expected game, I will take the Tigers PLUS the points (6.5) to cover against Alabama as my betting pick.
