January 10, 2017-9:00 PM ET Vivint Smart Home Arena, Salt Lake City, UT
The Cleveland Cavaliers will invade Salt Lake City on Tuesday night for a nonconference showdown against the Utah Jazz in what should be an entertaining matchup that has the following betting lines;
Best Cavs Lines: 5Dimes Spread (-3) ML -155
Best Jazz Lines: Bovada Spread (+3.5) ML “See Live Odds”
Over/Under: MyBookie 202.0
As LeBron James and company get set to make their only season appearance at Vivint Smart Home Arena, the big question surrounding the Cavs is when will their new addition in Kyle Korver be in uniform?
Brought over in a trade last week from Atlanta in exchange for Mike Dunleavy and Mo Williams plus other perks, the three-point sharpshooting specialist will be a big piece of the puzzle down the stretch and in the postseason in helping the Cavaliers repeat as champions.
Korver is expected to be in uniform on Tuesday as Dunleavy and the Hawks hammer out the finalizing of his contract. Korver will be an added weapon for the Cavs and serve as a great compliment to James as he is shooting 40.9 percent from behind the 3-point line.
Cleveland (28-8) sits atop the Central Division with a commanding 9 game lead on Indiana, although the Pacers have caught fire with five straight wins.
For Utah, a team that went 2/3 on their recently concluded five game road swing are tied for first along with Oklahoma City in the Northwest Division as both teams sit at 23-16.
Meeting for the first of two this season, this matchup will serve as a great measuring stick for Utah, but as their defense has been consistent throughout the season, it’s been their offense of late that has gone south averaging just 88.7 points per game over their last three contests.
Cleveland for their part has seen their defense take a back seat as they have allowed 110.0 points in their last three games, including blowing a 20-point lead in the third quarter to the lowly Phoenix Suns before hanging on for the 120-116 road victory.
Korver or no Korver, the Jazz are expected to give the the Cavs a challenge as they will be a fired-up bunch taking on the world champions.
Taking a look at the lines for betting purposes, 5Dimes is favoring CLE (-3) points over UTAH, while Bovada is giving the underdog home Jazz (+3.5) points. MyBookie gives us the over/under at 202.5 total game points scored; a number I will play as I will favor the OVER of 202.5 total game points scored as my favorite betting pick.
