Copa America Centenario: Semifinal 2 COL vs. CHILE
Colombia vs. Chile June 22, 2016- 8:00 PM ET (TV FS1) Soldier Field, Chicago, IL
With one-half of the finals set, Colombia and Chile will be next up on Wednesday night at Soldier Field to do battle on the pitch for a Copa America semifinal contest that has the following betting lines;
Best Colombia Lines: BetOnline ML (+193) Spread PK
Best Chile Lines: BetOnline ML (+140) Spread PK
Draw: +210 Over/Under: BetOnline 2.0
By virtue of a 4-0 beating over team USA on Tuesday, Argentina has already punched their ticket for a return trip back into the finals next Monday night; question is, will defending champion Chile be joining them with an opportunity to repeat as Copa America champions in this special anniversary tournament?
Making easy work of the Mexicans in the quarterfinals with a 7-0 thrashing, Chile now will now set their sights on their South American neighbors, who have their own ideas of capturing some Copa hardware.
And while Chile, who are currently ranked No. 5 in the FIFA World rankings unexpectedly dominated Mexico to earn the right to defend their title, the world’s No. 3 team had to go to penalty kicks to dispose of Peru.
Favoring more of a dogfight than the one-sided affair we saw against El Tri when both teams take to the pitch in the Windy City, La Roja and Los Cafeteros will continue to chase their second ever Copa title.
One major difference this time around when the Chileans take the field will be the absence of Arturo Vidal, who will be suspended for this all-important fixture as he received a costly yellow card against Mexico; no doubt a blow to Chile as head coach Juan Antonio must now scramble to replace the talented midfielder.
On the Colombian side of the ball, manager Jose Pekerman has been widely criticized for the constant change in lineup personnel leading many to wonder what he will have in store for his team when they take to the turf at Soldier Field?
This expected slugfest may come down to the play of each team’s goalkeepers as Colombian’s David Ospina of Arsenal will seek to outplay Claudio Bravo of Barcelona? However, we must not forger the play of Peru’s Eduardo Vargas, who has six goals in this tourney to lead all scorers in the race for the Golden Boot.
Taking a look at the betting lines, BetOnline is slightly favoring COL (+193) over CHILE with an over/under of 2.0 total game goals scored with the draw +210. Too close to call in my book, I will side with the totals and favor the OVER of 2.0 total game goals scored as my betting pick for this Copa America semifinal match.
