In what was a less-than stellar month of December for both teams, the Lions and Seahawks will now take to the turf having no choice but to be playoff ready as it’s win or go home in what figures to be a dogfight of a game.
For the Lions, who finished the regular-season at 9-7 but failed to win the North Division with last week’s home defeat to Green Bay, they will have the odds stacked against them as more than a touchdown underdog as they have never won a game in Seattle and have failed in their last eight playoff appearances.
Detroit will look to their field general in Matthew Stafford to help pull off the upset, but will be hampered by still a lingering finger injury on his throwing hand. No doubt bothered by the injury, Stafford just wasn’t the same when it came to throwing the ball as it had to play a part in the Lions dropping their final three games of the regular-season.
Seattle, who won the West with a 10-5-1 mark failed to impress down the stretch going 2-2 after Pro Bowl safety Earl Thomas went down with a season-ending injury.
The good news for Seattle, however, is the Seahawks have been dominant at home come playoff time as they have won their last eight postseason games dating back to 2005 and have captured six postseason wins since 2013. Overall at home with the help of the 12th-Man wreaking havoc on opposing teams since head coach Pete Carroll took over in the 2010, the Seahawks are 48-13.
Detroit for their part has only been to the postseason twice since 1999 and have not won a playoff game since 1991… a long time coming indeed.
And with the pressure on, how much will the lack of big-game experience come into play for the Lions as MyBookie is favoring SEA (-8) points over DET with an over/under 44.0 total game points scored.
Going with the defenses to shine in this one, I will favor the UNDER of 44. total game points scored as my favorite betting pick.
