National Football League: Week 17 GB vs. DET
Green Bay Packers (9-6, 3-4 away) at Detroit Lions (9-6, 6-1 home)
January 1, 2017- 8:30 PM ET (TV NBC) Ford Field, Detroit, MI
For the second consecutive year, the battle for the NFC North Division title will come down to the final game of the season and what better way then to do it in prime-time as the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions will square off in a pivotal matchup on Sunday night with the betting lines as follow;
Best Packers Lines: MyBookie Spread (-3) ML -185
Best Lions Lines: topbet Spread (+3.5) ML +160
Over/Under: BetOnline 49.5
With 9-6 records and tied atop the North, the division title will be on the line with the right to play on for one of these teams, however, if the Washington Redskins lose earlier in the day to the New York Giants, the loser of this game will advance to the wild-card. By kickoff, the teams will know what’s needed.
And who can forget last season’s matchup at Ford Field when Aaron Rodgers threw a 61-yard Hail Mary touchdown pass as time expired to give the Packers 27-23 road victory.
For the Packers, they were having a rough go of it as they were standing at 4-6 and looking for answers, but soon caught fire behind the arm of Rodgers and have now won five straight as they head into this high-stakes showdown.
The hottest arm in the league, Rodgers has thrown for 14 touchdowns without a pick over his last six games.
With all the momentum on the side of the Packers, the Lions will need to find a way to get off the mat after two straight road losses, including a 42-21 beating by Dallas on Monday night. A Lion’s win coupled by losses by Atlanta and Seattle will give Detroit a first-round bye for the playoffs. Green Bay got the better of their division rival 34-27 back in Lambeau earlier in the season.
Winners of their last six home games and all by coming from behind, the Lions are hoping one more win at home will deliver their first division championship since 1993… a long time coming.
A win over Green Bay will mean Matthew Stafford will need to find his groove again as he has thrown four picks in the past three games as he has been dealing with ligament damage in his right middle finger.
With an already a playoff game feel going in, the intensity and energy will be sky-high, but putting their confidence in the visitors, MyBookie is favoring GB (-3) points over DET, while topbet is giving the underdog Lions (+3.5) points.
BetOnline gives us the over/under at 49.5 points. Staying with the totals, I will favor the OVER of 49.5 total game points scored as my favorite betting pick.
