National Football League: Week 1 KC vs. NE
Kansas City Chiefs (0-0, 0-0 away) at New England Patriots (0-0, 0-0 home)
September 7, 2017- 8:30 PM ET (TV NBC) Gillette Stadium, Foxboro, NE
It’s finally here! After months of waiting, including another ho-hum preseason, the National Football League is ready to open their 2017 campaign on Thursday night in primetime. And to kick things off for us, we will go out to Gillette Stadium in Foxboro for what should be a great one between the Kansas City Chiefs versus New England Patriots in an AFC contest that has the following betting lines from our best sportsbooks;
Best Chiefs Lines: MyBookie Spread (+9) ML +335
Best Patriots Lines: BetOnline Spread (-9) ML -420
Over/Under: GTBets 48.5
After capturing their fifth Super Bowl championship in early February over the Atlanta Falcons, the Patriots will now begin their quest for a sixth world title when they welcome in a Kansas City team that is expected to contend for a postseason spot and beyond.
Heading into the 2017 season, there were murmurs of a “possible” 19-0 perfect season from slot receiver Julian Edelman… an expectation not far-fetched. However, as we fast forward to August 25 in a preseason game that saw Edelman sustain a season-ending ACL tear to his right knee, the Patriots must now move forward without a vital part of their offense.
We shall see what impact, if any, the absence of Edelman has on the offense, but one has to believe with long-time veteran quarterback Tom Brady at the helm and tight end Rob Gronkowski back in the mix, New England should be just fine.
As for the Chiefs, they went 12-4 last season but have to still have a bad taste in their mouth after dropping an 18-16 home playoff game to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Kansas City will have their hands full out the gate having to open up on the road in a stadium where is Brady is 101-17 and head coach Bill Belichick is 110-26.
Applying pressure and putting the hits on Brady will be the priority for the Kansas City defense if they want any hope of keeping the game close with a chance to win.
And if that isn’t enough, the Chiefs will have to contend with the energy all-around as the Patriots will unveil their 5th world championship banner along with getting their bling. Will the Pats come out flat or simply play New England football? For sports betting purposes for our US players, BetOnline is favoring NE (-9) points over KC with an over/under of 48.5 total game points scored from GTBets.
While, I do feel the Pats will come out on top, for betting purposes, I will favor the Chiefs PLUS the points (+9) from MyBookie to cover the spread as my best bet for this season opener.
