College Basketball: State Farm Champions Classic UK vs. MSU
#2 Kentucky Wildcats (2-0) at #13 Michigan State Spartans (0-1)
November 15, 2016- 7:00 PM ET (TV ESPN) Madison Square Garden, New York, NY
Taking to the hardwood since losing a tough season-opener, the No. 13 Michigan State Spartans will face another tough opponent when they tip it off against the No. 2 Kentucky Wildcats in the State Farm Champions Classic at famed Madison Square Garden in the Big Apple on Tuesday night in a matchup that has the following betting lines for what should be a good one;
Best Wildcats Lines: BetPhoenix Spread (+7.5) ML “See Live Odds”
Best Spartans Lines: BetOnline Spread (-7) ML “See Live Odds”
Over/Under: MyBookie “See Live Odds”
Four of basketball’s-best will be in New York City for the start of the Championship Classic as this tournament will feature Kentucky squaring off against Michigan State, followed by Duke vs. Kansas. But as the Wildcats have captured their first two games to begin the season, Michigan State dropped a heartbreaker to No. 10 Arizona on Friday in Hawaii 65-63 as the Spartans lost on a last second shot. What has to hurt even more is Arizona was down 17-2 early on only to fight back and hand the Spartans a season-opening defeat.
No doubt a bad taste in their mouth from that one, the Spartans will be fired-up and ready to face the Wildcats, who enter having defeated Stephen F. Austin 87-64 on Friday and Canisius 93-69 on Sunday.
Kentucky head coach John Calipari knows his team, who feature three McDonald’s All-American freshman in the starting lineup need to be ready for a hungry Michigan State team eager to bounce back. Calipari knows the task will be a great and interesting challenge for his young but talented team as he has made a living churning out “one-and-done” players throughout the years; a blueprint that has led to both glory and anguish.
Two of the most elite college basketball programs in history, this matchup on the national stage is sure to provide plenty of fireworks and entertainment. These two storied programs have met four times in the NCAA Tournament with a Final Four berth on the line with the Spartans getting the better of Kentucky in three of those.
Overall, these two national powers have met 23 times with Kentucky having captured 12 wins. And as they head into this one, BetOnline is favoring UK (-7) points over MSU, while 5Dimes is giving the underdog Spartans (+7.5) points.
The over/under as yet to be determined, but while I do see Kentucky winning, I like Michigan State to keep it close as I will favor the Spartans PLUS the points (+7.5) as my betting pick.
