This is what sports is all about as the Dodgers and Nationals will square off in a dramatic do-or-die Game 5 with the winner advancing to go on to the NLCS against the Chicago Cubs.
It was the Dodgers, behind a gutty performance by Clayton Kershaw in Game 4 back in Los Angeles that forced both teams to hop on a plane, travel East and go at another one more time as the Dodgers won 6-5; a game in which they led 5-2 and were in danger of blowing.
And for Game 5, the pressure will rest on the arms of left-hander Rich Hill (0-1, 8.31 ERA) of Los Angeles and right-handed ace Max Scherzer (0-1, 6.00 ERA) of the Nationals.
For Hill, he sufferd the loss in Game 2 as he allowed four runs on six hits, including a three-run jack as he lasted just 4 1/3 innings. In two postseason starts, Hill is 0-2 with a whopping 8.59 ERA.
With Scherzer on the bump, the Nationals have to like their chances of moving on, though, it was Scherzer who took the loss in Game 1; a 4-3 Dodger win. Scherzer dropped that contest to Kershaw.
In 13 postseason games, including 11 starts, Scherzer is 4-4 with a 3.93 ERA. A 20 game-winner during the course of the regular-season, Scherzer will now take to the mound in what may be the biggest start in his career as he will seek to send the Nationals to their first postseason series win in DC since winning Game 7 of the 1924 World Series.
The Dodger bats still have yet to come alive in full and unless they can get the timely hits when needed, they may be hard-pressed to get out of town with the win? Washington second baseman Daniel Murphy continues to wreck havoc on the Dodger arms and no doubt may be a factor once again?
Taking a look a the betting lines for this all-important matchup, BetOnline is favoring WSH (-151 ML) over LAD, with an over/under of 7.0 total game runs scored from 5Dimes. Picking Los Angeles as the team to advance when the series began, I will stay true to my pick and favor the Dodgers in a moneyline win (+135 ML) over Washington for the big Game 5 win and moving on.
