After what was a rough outing to end the season allowing the San Francisco Giants to sneak in the postseason as they got swept, the NL West champion Dodgers will now try to put it all together for the “real” season when they travel East for Games 1 and 2 of the National League Division Series.
And, who better to get it started for the Dodgers than their ace in left-hander Clayton Kershaw (12-4, 1.69 ERA), who bounced back for five starts after missing part of July and August on the DL.
The southpaw, regarded as one of the best to ever take the mound has had his issues when it counts most with a 4.59 career postseason ERA. Overall, Kershaw is 2-3 in the NLDS and 0-3 in the NLCS. It will be vital for Kershaw to have a strong outing to build his confidence; something that may be easier to accomplish if the Dodger bats can put some good wood on the ball versus Scherzer.
And on the other side, it will be the right-hand throwing Scherzer (20-7, 2.96 ERA) who will be seeking to keep the Dodger hitters at bay as he is 2-4 in 10 games against Los Angeles with a 3.29 ERA.
Kershaw for his part is 10-2 in 14 games; 13 starts versus the Nats with a 2.02 ERA.
Game 2 will feature a matchup between Rich Hill of the Dodgers against either Tanner Roark (RHP) or Gio Gonzalez (LHP) of the Nationals.
During the regular-season, the Dodgers took five of six over Washington, including two of three in D.C., but all of that means nothing as now what counts.
And with runs expected to be at a premium in Game 1, both teams will do their best to manufacture some runs for their hurlers early giving them confidence. Heading into the NLDS opener, MyBookie weighs in on the action favoring LAD (-150 ML) over WASH, with BetOnline giving us the over/under at 6.0 total game runs scored.
Wanting to play the totals, I will favor the UNDER of 6.0 total game runs scored as my betting pick for what should be a great one.
