Winners of two straight, the Grizzlies will look to continue winning while getting healthy as they should be heavy favorites over a Laker team that was once thriving early on but have fallen back down to earth hard.
For Memphis (22-14), they hold the third-place in the Southwest Division six games back of San Antonio but as PG Mike Conley is rounding back into form and Chandler Parsons is getting healthy, the Grizzlies are now dealing with an injury to C Marc Gasol with an ankle sprain. Gasol is listed as day-to-day and may be rested with Memphis feeling they have enough remaining weapons to defeat the Lakers. Gasol, however, leads the Grizzlies in scoring with 19.5 points and 4.1 assists per game.
For Los Angeles, they have dropped their last three games to fall to 12-25 on the season and are a whopping 19 games back of Golden State in the Pacific Division.
The tale of the tape has the Grizzlies scoring 98.5 points per game to the Lakers 104.2, while on the defensive side, Memphis is allowing 104.2 points to the LA’s 110.4 points per contest. Los Angeles has been in a free-fall having lost 15 of their last 17 games.
One bright spot for the Purple and Gold has been the shooting of G Nick Young, who over an eight-game stretch has connected on 36 of 64 from behind the three-point line.
In the midst of a four game road swing, the Grizzlies took down Sacramento 112-98 on Saturday behind 22 points and eight boards. Gasol went down with an ankle injury in the third quarter with no status yet for Tuesday.
Meeting for the second of three meetings this season, the Lakers played the Grizzlies tough back in Memphis before falling 103-100.
The Lakers continue to be a team that is enduring the growing pains of learning how to win and play consistent basketball with still a lot to be desired on the defensive end.
