Great way to start the weekend series come Friday night as the Minnesota Twins and Kansas City Royals will square off at Kauffman Stadium for the start of a huge four-game set that has the following betting lines from our best sportsbooks;
Best Twins Lines: BetOnline ML (+108) Spread +1.5
Best Royals Lines: BetOnline ML (-118) Spread -1.5
Over/Under: MyBookie 8.5
With a division that is still very much up for grabs in the AL Central, both the second-place Twins (40-37) and third-place Kansas City Royals (38-39) will seek to stay within striking distance of the first-place Cleveland Indians.
The Twins trail the Tribe by 1 ½ games, whereas Kansas City trails by 3 ½ making for what is expected to be a dogfight this weekend as the All-Star break in quickly approaching.
Both teams enter looking to bounce back from a defeat their last time out as they each have captured six of their last 10 games.
Much of the Twins success this season can be attributed to their play on the road where they are an impressive 24-12 on the road; something the Royals are all too aware of as they are 21-18 at home.
Getting it started in this series will be a premier pitching duel between a pair of aces in right-hander Ervin Santana for Minnesota versus southpaw Jason Vargas for the Royals.
Taking a look at the tale of the tape for each hurler, former Royal, Santana has been stellar with a 10-4 mark with a 2.80 ERA and heads into this matchup with a 6-9 record in 22 starts against his former team with a 4.45 ERA. As for Vargas, he has been equally impressive with an 11-3 mark along with a 2.29 ERA. In 17 career outings, including 16 starts against Minnesota, Vargas is 6-4 with a 3.75 ERA but has shined at home with a 6-1 record in eight starts along with a major-league leading 1.92 ERA at Kauffman Stadium.
If the Royals want to be there come late season, they will need much better play within their division where they are just 10-20 in the Central. For sports betting purposes for our US players, BetOnline is favoring KC (-118 ML) over MIN with an over/under of 8.5 total game runs scored from MyBookie.
Liking what I see from both arms, I will favor the UNDER of 8.5 total game runs scored as my best betting pick for this contest.
