Dealt yet another defeat at the hands of the Tribe by a 7-2 score on Friday, the Yankees have dropped two straight to Cleveland to push their losing slump to four consecutive games.
And with that defeat, the Yankees have fallen to 57-51 on the year; a mark that has them 3 games back of the Boston Red Sox in the AL East.
Winners of six of eight prior to their slump, much of the Yankees woes can be pointed to their lack of offense where they have scored just six runs in their last four games.
Taking the loss on Friday for New York was new addition Jaime Garcia, who was brought over before the trade deadline along with fellow starter Sonny Gray, who took the loss on Thursday in the series opener.
The Indians with their win have now captured two straight to push their record to 59-48; a record that has them 3 ½ games up on the Kansas City Royals in the AL Central.
Starting to resemble the Indians of last season, the defending American League champions may be poised to make their move down the stretch as they find themselves locked in a battle in the Central Division.
Aiming to get things turned around, the Yankees will hand the ball to left-hander Jordan Montgomery, who is 7-6 with a 4.15 ERA. Montgomery will be coming off the shortest outing of his major league career in which he allowed four runs in 2 ⅔ innings.
Opposing Montgomery and the Yankee bats will be right-hander Danny Salazar (4-5, 4.63 ERA). For Salazar, he is in his third start since coming off the DL. In his previous two starts, Salazar has allowed two runs in 13 innings.
Hard-pressed to turn the tables and get back to winning, the Yankees will need their bats to come alive to give them a chance.
For sports betting purposes, GTBets is favoring CLE (-150 ML) over NYY with an over/under of 9.0 total game runs scored from MyBookie; a number I will play as I will favor the UNDER of 9.0 total game runs scored as my best betting pick.
