National Hockey League: Stanley Cup Final PIT vs. SJ
Game 3- PIT Leads 2-0 Pittsburgh Penguins (48-26-8) at San Jose Sharks (46-30-6)
June 4, 2016- 8:00 PM ET (TV NBCSN) SAP Center, San Jose, CA
In what is expected to be a frenzied crowd at the Shark Tank on Saturday night, the San Jose Sharks will take to the ice at the SAP Center for their first ever Stanley Cup Final game at home as they welcome in a Pittsburgh Penguins team seeking to draw blood in a Game 3 matchup that has the following betting lines;
Best Penguins Lines: MyBookie ML (+115) Spread +1.5
Best Sharks Lines: BetOnline ML (-133) Spread -1.5
Over/Under: Bovada 5.5
After a rough outing in Games 1 and 2 back in the Steel City in which they were outplayed most of the way, the Sharks can at least take solace in the fact that despite being down 0-2 in this best-of-7 series, they lost both games by one goal.
Game 1 was won by the Pens in the final three minutes, with the Game 2 winner coming in overtime. Now back on their own home ice, the Sharks will seek to get back to the brand of hockey that has earned them their first ever trip to playing on the NHL’s-biggest stage.
But to do get back into this series, San Jose will need to find a way to neutralize the speed of the Penguins as they have yet to play their best hockey in this series.
Hitting on some daunting numbers for the Sharks; of the 49 teams that have taken a 2-0 series lead in a Cup final since going to a best-of-7 format, 44 have taken home the ultimate prize with 33 of the 36 teams winning the series that have won the first two games at home.
Of course, ask any San Jose player and they could care less about numbers and only the game in front of them; something the Pens will agree with as they were one of those rare teams that fought back from an 0-2 hole to win it all in 2009.
Pittsburgh has had their way teeing off on Martin Jones in net with 71 shots on goal to 48 for the Sharks. Another area that has hurt San Jose is only three power play opportunities with one goal scored.
We can expect a different San Jose team in Game 3 as they will go in a desperate squad ready to make a series out of this and expecting just that; BetOnline is favoring SJ (-133 ML) over PIT with an over/under of 5.5 total game goals scored.
Riding the energy of the crowd to cheer on the home team, I will favor the Sharks in a (-133) moneyline over Pittsburgh as my Game 3 pick.
