In a division that is still very much up for grabs, a pair of rivals in the Pittsburgh Pirates and St. Louis Cardinals will seek to continue leaving their mark when both teams meet in the series finale on Sunday night in a primetime contest at Busch Stadium that has the following betting lines from our best sportsbooks;
Best Pirates Lines: BetOnline ML (+132) Spread +1.5
Best Cardinals Lines: BetOnline ML (-142) Spread -1.5
Over/Under: MyBookie 8.5
The tale of the tape in the Central Division has the Milwaukee Brewers standing atop the division holding a half-game lead over the Chicago Cubs, four games up on the Pirates, who sport a 35-40 record and five games up the Cardinals and their 33-40 mark.
With the major league season quickly approaching the halfway mark, the four contenders know all too well what is at stake the rest of the way as they all find themselves in a dogfight. Unlike last season where the Cubs simply ran away with the division on their way to winning it all, this season’s Central Division race is very much up in the air.
Heading into Sunday’s finale, it is the Bucs who will be looking for the series sweep after their 7-3 victory on Saturday.
For the Bucs and Cards, they will both look to come away with a victory when they both send to the mound a pair of right-handers; Chad Kuhl for the Pirates and Mike Leake for St. Louis.
Pittsburgh will pin their hopes on a sweep with the help of Kuhl, who heads in with a 2-6 record with a 5.46 ERA. Kuhl to this point has had a rough go of it but it coming off a win his last time out. When facing the Cards, Kuhl is 0-2 in three starts with a 4.85 ERA.
On the St. Louis side of the ball, the once dominant Leake has dropped four straight decisions as his record stands at 5-6 with a 3.03 ERA. Having not tasted victory since May 24, Leake will aim to end that drought where he is 10-5 in 29 starts with a 3.29 ERA versus Pittsburgh.
And with that record of success in mind for Leake, the sports betting lines for our US players has BetOnline favoring STL (-142 ML) over PIT with an over/under of 8.5 total game runs scored from MyBookie.
In line with who the sportsbooks are leaning on, I will favor the Cardinals in a MINUS (-142) moneyline over Pittsburgh as my best betting pick.
