European Cup Championship: Final POR vs. FRA
Portugal vs. France July 10, 2016- 3:00 PM ET (TV ESPN) Stade de France, Saint-Denis, France
After weeks of tournament play, it has come down to two countries on Sunday at Stade de France in Saint-Denis as Portugal will seek to knock off France on their own soil for the 2016 European Cup Championship Final as the betting lines for this fixture are as follow;
Best Portugal Lines: BetOnline ML (+320) Spread +1/2
Best France Lines: BetOnline ML (+102) Spread -1/2
Draw: +195 Over/Under: MyBookie 2.0
With 2-0 wins in their respected semifinal contests, the stage is now set as all eyes will be on Portugal led by Cristiano Ronaldo versus France led by their man in Antoine Greizmann.
But as this matchup is a game in which any team can win, the challenge will fall on the Portuguese as they have dropped 10 consecutive matches to the French. Throw in Les Bleus winning the tournament as the host country in 1982 and the World Cup in 1998 and we can see why they have the slight advantage heading into this winner-take-all fixture.
But this a Portugal team that is accustomed to winning soccer and finding success in big games as they have reached the semifinals in five of their last nine European Championships and World Cups since 2000.
But unlike previous matches such as Euro 2000, 2004 and World Cup 2006 in which the Portuguese came away with heartbreaking defeats, Ronaldo and company will be looking to bring home a championship and make all of the soccer-craze country of Portugal proud of A Selecao.
But the French have their own ideas as they want to continue their mastery over Portugal and give their own country something to cheer about. Playing the most consistent soccer in this year’s Euro’s, France heads into this championship having disposed of world champion Germany.
However, it’s been a long time coming for the country of France to have complete faith in their team after what they have witnessed in their national team since November 2013.
Something Greizmann and company will aim to change once they take to the pitch versus Portugal. The Portuguese defense has been solid since the knockout stage; an area the French hope to exploit, while containing the likes of Ronaldo on offense.
Taking a look at the betting action, BetOnline is favoring FRA (+102 ML) over POR with an over/under of 2.0 total game goals scored with a draw of +195. With Portugal up for the challenge of taking down the French in their own country, while France seeks their third Euro title, I will favor the OVER of 2.0 total game goals scored as my betting pick for the 2016 European Cup Championship Final.
