May 30, 2016- 8:00 PM ET (TV NBC) CONSOL Energy Center, Pittsburgh, PA
In what has been a long grueling postseason thus far, the stage is finally set for two teams who battled all playoff long to finally take the ice and play for the ultimate prize… the Stanley Cup. Come Monday night at the Consol Energy Arena, the San Jose Sharks and Pittsburgh Penguins will face off in Game 1 for what is expected to be an exciting showdown that has the following betting lines for the series opener;
Best Sharks Lines: MyBookie ML (+130) Spread +1.5
Best Penguins Lines: MyBookie ML (-150) Spread -1.5
Over/Under: BetOnline 5.5
After nearly 25 years of existence, the San Jose Sharks will finally get to taste the feel of a Stanley Cup Final as they will skate into Pittsburgh for the start of the NHL’s biggest stage against a Penguins team seeking their first raising of the Cup since 2009 under the guidance of mega-superstar Sidney Crosby.
It’s been a long seven years since that win over Detroit that Crosby has drank from the Cup of Lord Stanley amid criticism and injuries but he his back and ready to bring another championship to the city of Pittsburgh.
But when it comes to waiting, how does nearly a quarter of a century sound for a San Jose team who came into the league in 1991? Year after year, it seemed the Sharks would finally get over the hump as they put together solid teams and strong postseason runs only to fail and disappoint at the end.
But, no disappointment was bigger than in 2014 when they held a 3-0 first-round series lead over the Los Angeles Kings only to see it spiral out of control leading to a 4-3 series loss; a loss that bled into last season as the Sharks failed all together to make the playoffs. Now back and stronger than ever, will this be the year the Sharks finally etch their names on the Cup?
Coming into this series, the Sharks will depend on their power power-play to make the difference as they are 9-2 in the postseason when they score with the man advantage to 3-4 when they don’t.
The goalie matchup will pit Martin Jones of San Jose versus the duo of rookie Matt Murray and Marc-Andre Fleury. Both teams will also feature plenty of veteran leadership.
San Jose was the best in the league when it came to winning on the road but staying with the home team in Game 1, MyBookie is favoring PIT (-150 ML) over SJ with an over/under of 5.5 total game goals scored.
Liking the fire-power on both sides, I will favor the OVER of 5.5 total game goals scored as my Game 1 pick for betting purposes.
