National Hockey League: Stanley Cup Final SJ vs. PIT
Game 2: PIT Leads 1-0
San Jose Sharks (46-30-6) at Pittsburgh Penguins (48-26-8)
June 1, 2016- 8:00 PM ET (TV NBCSN) CONSOL Energy Center, Pittsburgh, PA
Shell-shocked in the first twenty minutes of Game 1 on Monday, the San Jose Sharks will be aiming for a better all-around game when they take to the ice at the Consol Energy Center on Wednesday night in Game 2 versus the Pittsburgh Penguins in a Stanley Cup Final contest that has the following betting lines;
Best Sharks Lines: Bovada ML (+115) Spread +1.5
Best Penguins Lines: BetOnline ML (-131) Spread -1.5
Over/Under: MyBookie 5.5
After waiting nearly 25 years to take the ice in the NHL’s biggest event, the Sharks took the role of spectator for the first period as they witnessed the Penguins score two goals before deciding to play hockey.
Fighting back to even the score, it was the Pens who got the final say with 2:33 left in the game as Nick Bonino got a floating wrist shot past the defense of Martin Jones to take the opener 3-2 and a 1-0 series lead in this best-of-7 Final.
Now with hopefully first game jitters or just the awe of playing for the Cup out of the way, the Sharks insist they will be better prepared heading into Game 2; no doubt a game they want to win as to avoid a 0-2 hole heading back home for Games 3 and 4.
One area the Sharks will be focused on is their defense as they allowed the Pens to take 41 shots on goal; the most for San Jose in a playoff regulation game this postseason, including being outshot 15 to 4 in the first period.
Playing more aggressive the rest of the way, we can expect to see a different San Jose team come Wednesday and following a defeat are 5-1 in this postseason.
San Jose will be seeking a higher number of shots along with quality to help match the fire-power of Sidney Crosby and company.
No stranger to being down early, the Sharks found themselves losing the opening game against St. Louis in the Conference final but went on to win the series in six games.
Let’s not forget the Sharks were tops in the league on the road and now with the first game out of the way, let’s see if they can settle into a much-needed groove? Weighing in on the action, the experts over at BetOnline are favoring PIT (-131 ML) over SJ with an over/under of 5.5 total game goals scored from MyBookie.
Falling short the first time around with my prediction of goals scored, I will stay with the OVER of 5.5 total game goals scored once again as my Game 2 pick.
