Showing their resiliency once again, the St. Louis Blues return home seeking to take the always pivotal Game 5 when they face off against the San Jose Sharks on Monday night at the Scottrade Center in a Western Conference finals contest that has the following betting lines;
Best Sharks Lines: BetOnline ML (+113) Spread +1.5
Best Blues Lines: BetOnline ML (-125) Spread -1.5
Over/Under: BetPhoenix 5.0
After seeing the Sharks dominate for most of the series, it was the Blues who struck back in a big way with a solid 6-3 road victory in San Jose on Saturday night as this best-of-7 series now stands at two-games apiece setting the stage for a critical Game 5 where the winner will be just one win away from advancing to the coveted Stanley Cup Final.
With a goalie change for the Blues with Jake Allen in place of Brian Elliott, it was exactly the jolt St. Louis needed as they turned in perhaps their best game of the postseason.
Left for almost dead with back-to-back games failing to score a goal as they were outscored by a combined 7-0 in Games 2 and 3, the Blues behind Allen in the crease poured it on against San Jose ending their scoreless drought of 156:59 with two shots that found the back of the net in the first period.
And though, both the tandem goaltending duo of Elliott and Allen split the duties between the pipes during the regular-season, the move by St. Louis head coach Ken Hitchcock leading into what was an important Game 4 worked to a charm.
For San Jose, no major changes are expected in St. Louis as head coach Peter DeBoer expects his team to bounce back behind Martin Jones, the franchise’s first goaltender to post consecutive shutouts.
Jones fell victim to the pressure of St. Louis on Saturday as he was pulled from the net for the first time all postseason long after allowing four goals on 19 shots.
We can be sure to see more pressure from the Blues but let’s not forget how good of a road team the Sharks are as they were the best in the NHL? Taking a look at the betting lines from the experts over at BetOnline, they are favoring STL (-125 ML) over SJ with an over/under of 5.0 total game goals scored from BetPhoenix.
Riding the totals in this one, I will favor and pick the OVER of 5.0 total game goals scored as my Game 5 pick.
