Doing what was needed on the road, the Los Angeles Dodgers return home on Monday afternoon with ‘home-field’ advantage as they will take on the Washington Nationals in Game 3 of the NL Division Series with the betting lines as follow;
Best Nationals Lines: MyBookie ML (+130) Spread +1.5
Best Dodgers Lines: 5Dimes ML (-143) Spread -1.5
Over/Under: BetOnline 7.5
After taking a tough Game 1 back in DC to open up this Best-of-5 series, it was the Nationals who bounced back in a big way to take Game 2 on Sunday after Saturday’s matchup was postponed due to rain.
And it was a combination of second baseman Daniel Murphy and left-handed pitching that did the Dodgers in in Game 2. Murphy was a one-man wrecking crew against Los Angeles last year in the playoffs as a member of the New York Mets and so far this postseason is doing much of the same as he is 4 of 6.
And when it comes to hitting southpaws, that challenge continues to be an Achilles Heel for the Dodgers as they are a paltry 1-for-14 in the first two games.
And with that glaring stat staring the Dodgers in the face, they will need to find some answers in a hurry as they face left-hander Gio Gonzalez (11-11, 4.57 ERA), who in five career starts versus LA is 3-1 with a 1.69 ERA.
Making his fourth postseason start, Gonzalez has three non-decisions with a 3.21 ERA.
Countering the National bats and Gonzalez, the Dodgers will hand the ball to right-hander Kenta Maeda (16-11, 3.48 ERA) in what is his rookie campaign for Los Angeles.
During the course of the regular-season, opponents hit .229 against Maeda as he recorded 179 strikeouts, while leading the team in wins.
Not known to go deep in games, the Dodgers will be looking to get as much out of Maeda as possible, but it will be up to the Dodger bats to build a lead and give Maeda some confidence as he will be making his first-ever major league start in the postseason.
Though, back home, the pressure will fall on the Dodgers to get the job done over the next two games not wanting to leave anything to chance of going back to DC for a fifth and deciding game. And for Game 3 betting purposes, 5Dimes is favoring LAD (-143 ML) over WASH, with an over/under of 7.5 total game runs scored.
While, I am leaning on the Dodgers in this one, for betting purposes I will favor the OVER of 7.5 total game points scored as my betting pick.
