The defending NFC champion Falcons (10-6) will seek to continue their journey back to the Super Bowl when they take on the top-seeded but short-handed Eagles (13-3) in a divisional round clash that will put the winner in next week’s NFC Championship game against the New Orleans Saints/Minnesota Vikings winner on Sunday.
For the first time in four years, Philadelphia finds themselves back in the playoffs, but though they were the best in the NFC and have home-field advantage, they will enter as (-3) point underdogs as they will be without their MVP candidate in QB Carson Wentz.
And, while Nick Foles is more than capable in leading the Eagles… he is no Carson Wentz as Philadelphia enters has the first No. 1 seed to open as an underdog in the playoffs. Foles does have postseason experience, but make no mistake Wentz was the driving force behind the Philadelphia offense.
For the Falcons, they are coming off an impressive showing in last weekend’s 26-13 wild card road victory over the Los Angeles Rams and seem to be a team determined to get back to the Super Bowl where they have some unfinished business.
Led by Pennsylvania native Matt Ryan, the Falcons are 1-3 against the Eagles but have to like their chances versus a Philadelphia team that will be looking to muster some offense behind Foles? Ryan has thrown for 4,095 yards with 20 touchdowns and 12 picks, but didn’t turn the ball over in last week’s win.
Philadelphia is a formidable defense but will have the pressure on them to contain Ryan and the high-powered offense of Atlanta and keep the game close enough to give Foles a chance to win.
Ryan captured his first win in three starts on the road last week and now will be looking to give his team another while punching their ticket to the championship game. Can the Eagles get it done with Foles under center and punch their own ticket? For sports betting purposes for our US players, 5Dimes is favoring ATL (-3) points over PHI with an over/under of 41.0 total game points scored from BetOnline.
Feeling too much on the visitors side of the ball, I will favor the Falcons MINUS the points (-3) over Philadelphia as my best betting pick.
