An all-important three-game weekend series will be on tap starting on Friday night at Miller Park as the Chicago Cubs and Milwaukee Brewers will square off in an NL Central clash that has the following betting lines from our best sportsbooks;
Best Cubs Lines: MyBookie ML (-160) Spread -1.5
Best Brewers Lines: MyBookie ML (+140) Spread +15
Over/Under: BetOnline 9.0
In a reversal of roles from two weeks ago, it is now the Cubs (54-47) who hold first-place in the division with a 1 ½ game lead over Milwaukee. Leading into the All-Star break, it was Milwaukee who had a commanding 5 ½ game lead over the Cubs; a team who until then was playing just mediocre baseball.
Fast forward to the present and now it seems the Cubs are finally playing the type of ball that saw them win it all last season as they have captured 10 of their last 12 games, including three straight. For the Brewers, they have dropped nine of their last 11 games to fall to 54-40 on the season.
The Central Division is shaping up to be an expected dogfight until the end as the Pittsburgh Pirates and St. Louis Cardinals are both within striking distance at 4 ½ games back.
The defending champs feel they now have what it takes to remain in first-place the rest of the way with the addition of southpaw Jose Quintana. The left-handed hurler, who was brought over in a trade from cross-town rival, Chicago White Sox has been on his game with his new teammates.
Quintana is 2-0 with a 2.08 ERA in his two starts with the Cubs and has emerged as the new ace. When facing the Brewers, Quintana has been stellar with a 2-0 mark with a 0.60 ERA in two career starts.
For Milwaukee, they are just happy to be home after 11 days on the road; a road trip that was brutal enough to cost them the top-spot in the division. Needing to turn their fortunes around in a hurry, the Brewers will hand the ball to left-hander Brent Suter. Suter on the year is 1-1 with a 2.60 ERA. Versus the Cubs in four career relief appearances, Suter is sporting an 18.00 ERA.
Much, if not all of the Milwaukee woes during their slump can be attributed to the Brewer bats going absent. For sports betting purposes for our US players, MyBookie is favoring CHC (-160 ML) over MIL with an over/under of 9.0 total game runs scored from BetOnline.
Staying with the visitors, I will favor the Cubs with a MINUS (-160) moneyline win over Milwaukee as my best betting pick.
