Group Stage H: COL vs. JPN
Colombia vs. Japan June 19, 2018 8:00 PM ET (TV FOXS1) Mordovia Arena Saransk, Russia
The final group stage of this year’s World Cup will finally get to display their talents beginning on Tuesday when Colombia and Japan take to the field at Mordovia Arena in a matchup that has the following betting lines from our best sportsbooks;
With Colombia all set to begin play in Group Stage H against the Japanese, they may have to do it without their leading goal scorer in James Rodriguez who is doubtful for Tuesday’s match. Rodriguez, who set the tournament on fire four years ago in Brazil with six goals in five matches has been dealing with muscle fatigue in his left calf, practiced on Monday but is awaiting word from team doctors on his condition.
If Rodriguez is unable to go, the Colombians can look to all-time scorer Radamel “El Tigre” Falcao to be their ace up the sleeve. Falcao will be anxious to hit the field and display his talents after missing the 2014 World Cup due to injury.
But, it doesn’t stop there with coach Jose Pekerman and his team as he has a bevy of talent in Jose Izquierdo, Juan Quintero and Mateus Uribe as players who can step up and help deliver a victory.
For the Japanese and their coach Akira Nishino, he will have to have his team ready regardless who is missing from the Colombian side of the ball as it was Colombia delivering a 4-1 hurting on Japan four years ago in group stage play.
The “Blue Samurai” as they are called will seek to utilize their quick, fast-break style of play to offset Los Cafeteros; a team ranked 16th in the world by FIFA.
Favored to do well and in advance in a wide-open group that also features Poland and Senegal, the Colombians will look to get out of the gate fast by earning 3 points… but will the Japanese have something to say?
For sports betting purposes from our best sportsbooks of this COL vs. JPN matchup, MyBookie has Colombia (-138 ML) favorites over Japan (+452 ML) with an over/under of 2.0 total game goals scored from 5Dimes. Liking Los Cafeteros in this one, I will favor Colombia to put some points on the board and favor the OVER of 2.0 total game goals scored as my best betting pick.
