Seeking to stay relevant in the NFC North chase, the Lions at 3-4 and Packers at 4-3 will be in for a dogfight come Monday night at Lambeau Field as playoff implications will be huge when these two long-time rivals take to the field.
Detroit enters with a three-game losing streak, including a 20-15 home defeat at the hands of the Pittsburgh Steelers last Sunday; a game in which the Lions can only muster five field goals… the difference in the game.
Quarterback Matthew Stafford threw for 423 yards but once it came to the red zone, the Lions offense hit a wall where they went 0-5; a ranking of 28th in the league. Stafford on the year has thrown for 1,851 yards with 12 touchdowns and four picks but will need to find the end zone once inside the 20.
For the Packers, they have dropped two straight since losing their leader in QB Aaron Rodgers and has they are coming off a much-needed bye, let’s see what the extra week to prepare will do for Green Bay heading in.
In the absence of Rodgers will be Todd Hundley and to this point it’s been rough going as he has thrown for four interceptions in his last two games. A sub-40 passer rating in that stretch, Hundley will need to find success in moving the offense as they have scored just 27 points over their last two games; before the Rodgers injury, the Green Bay offense was averaging 27.0 points a game.
It will be a welcome relief for the Lions as they will not have to face Rodgers who has owned them in his career with a 13-3 mark.
However, Detroit believes the Packers are still the Packers and are taking nothing for granted with Hundley under center. The Lions will rely on a defense that has caused 16 takeaways, including 10 picks. For sports betting purposes for our US players, MyBookie is favoring DET (-2) points over GB with an over/under of 43.0 total game points scored from XBet.
In keeping my confidence in the visiting team with Stafford at the helm, I will favor the Lions MINUS the points (-2) over Green Bay for the win as my best betting pick.
