Two of the NBA’s best in the Warriors at 30-8 and Rockets at 27-9 will meet for the second of three times this season in a nationally televised matchup that should provide plenty of fireworks. However, in the case of Houston, they will be missing a big piece of their ‘pop’ in team MVP James Harden.
Harden, who was diagnosed with a Grade 2 left hamstring strain missed his first game of the season on Wednesday as the Rockets cruised to a 116-98 victory over the struggling Orlando Magic. Harden is expected to miss at least 2 weeks of the season and no doubt is a big blow to Houston with his absence.
Point guard Chris Paul will be looked upon by his teammates to help carry the load but with a dynamic player such as Harden out… the entire Houston team will need to step up.
For the Warriors who recently got their own MVP back in Stephen Curry, they will be looking for revenge after the Rockets delivered a 122-121 road win at Oracle Arena in the season opener. Curry in just his second game back after an 11-game absence poured in 32 points in a 125-122 road win at Dallas on Wednesday.
While the jury is still out on how the Rockets will fare without Harden, Golden State without their superstar didn’t miss much a beat as they are loaded with depth with the likes of Kevin Durant, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson.
The Warriors are running away with the Pacific Division leading by 12 games over the Los Angeles Clippers, while the Rockets are holding a 2 ½ game lead over the San Antonio Spurs in the Southwest Division.
Golden State will be fired-up to exact revenge on the Rockets, who may find the challenge without Harden too much to overcome against the powerful Warriors.
