Baccarat Play Rules
There are three main variations of Baccarat, namely American, European, and French. Aside from a few modifications here and there, they’re similar. The Wonderpunter.com team’s online Baccarat Guide focuses on the American version. You can play Baccarat at our instant withdraw casinos.
Note, in Baccarat the player is not always necessarily the ‘Player’, or the Dealer, the ‘Banker’. You bet on the outcome of the cards dealt with either the Player or the Banker. The third betting option is the Tie. The aim of Baccarat is to bet on a hand with a card total of 9. Or, nearest to it in a descending pattern. Any totals above 9 are not relevant. Unlike Blackjack, there is no such thing as ‘bust’ if the card totals are higher than 21. The numbers 10 or above is immaterial (thus the name of the game meaning ‘zero’).
Baccarat Hand Ranking
Both the Player and the Bank receive two face-up cards. The totals according to their card values look like this:
- 10, Jack, Queen, and King = 0
- Ace Cards = 1
- All other cards = their actual face value
- Any total above 9, omits the first number, and the hand value then becomes only the second number. For example, if the two cards are 7 and 5 (totaling 12). The 1 falls away, and the hand total is 2.
Baccarat Third-Card Draw Rule
Next, a third card determines the outcome of the total. Now, should the Players’ hand total be 5 or less, he or she will receive a third card. Depending on the Player’s hand, the Banker will only draw a third card under the following circumstances:
- If you don’t draw = Bankers draws if its hand total is 5 or less.
- When you draw 2 or 3 = Banker draws on a hand total of 4 or less.
- Should you draw 4 or 5 = Banker draws on a hand total of 5 or less.
- If you draw 6 or 7 = Banker draws on a total of 6 or less.
- When you draw 8 = Banker draw on 2 or less.
- When you draw a 9, 10, J, Q, K, or Ace. It is equal to the Banker’s total of 3 or less.
These may vary depending on the Baccarat variant you play. In certain Baccarat variants. You may choose whether you want a third card while in others a third card draw limits the draw rules. It will stand you in good stead if you know these rules. When you play Baccarat online, the game automatically checks and computes the rules for you.
Betting on the Player
Should you bet on the Player hand winning, you will win even money. This means that if you bet $50, you will win your bet and another $50 (1:1), thus $100.
Betting on the Banker
The Banker’s hand has a better chance of winning, due to the third-card draw rule. If you bet on the Banker to win. Then you also win even money but will have to relinquish a commission of 5% to the house.
Betting on a Tie
When you bet on a tie, you can win up to 8x your bet. Then again, the odds of a tie occurring is very low. But, the payout is much larger than just betting on the other two options. Check the paytable just in case it’s a tie; usually, it pays 8:1. If you bet $50 on a tie. Not only will you win your $50 back but an extra $400 too! But you can also lose big-time when you bet on a Tie. Note, the statistical probability of a tie is minuscule. Only play it if you can afford to.
