Minnesota Golden Gophers (8-4) at Washington State Cougars (8-4)
December 27, 2016- 7:00 PM ET (TV ESPN) Qualcomm Stadium, San Diego, CA
A pair of 8-4 teams will aim to end their year with a nine win season and along with it a Holiday Day Bowl victory as the Minnesota Golden Gophers and Washington State Cougars will take to the field at Qualcomm Stadium on Tuesday afternoon for a matchup that has the following betting lines;
Best Golden Gophers Lines: BetOnline Spread (+10) ML +300
Best Cougars Lines: MyBookie Spread (-10) ML -390
Over/Under: topbet 61.0
After making headlines off the field, the Golden Gophers will now seek to make headlines on the field as they will face a high-powered Washington State team looking to make headlines of their own in what should be a competitive contest in San Diego.
The Minnesota football team will look to put the past behind them as they ended a two-day boycott on December 17 after 10 players were suspended for an alleged sexual assault case feeling that the accused would not get a fair hearing. Assured that the accused would, the Golden Gophers then turned their attention back to football as they will seek out their first nine win season since 2003 when they captured 10 victories on the year.
But to do so, the Golden Gophers will need to focus their defensive attention to Washington State QB Luke Falk and his “Air Raid” offense along with his favorite target in receiver Gabe Marks. All the pair has done is produce the No. 2 passing offense in the country with 370.8 yards per game. As for Falk, he has been deadly with his arm ranking fifth in total passing yards with 4,024, fourth in yards per game with 350.3 and fifth in touchdowns with 37 on the season thus far. Marks joins the party ranking 12th in the nation with 7.1 catches per game. On the year, Marks has totaled 867 receiving yards with 13 touchdowns.
And with having to face a Minnesota defense that has had their issues in defending the pass, we can expect the talented duo of Falk and Marks to have a big day… that is of course if the Cougars can protect their gunslinger as the Golden Gophers are 21st in the nation with 2.83 sacks per game.
Minnesota will try of offset the Cougars with their running game with RB Rodney Smith leading the way with 1,084 yards on the ground with 15 touchdowns.
But, going back to the suspensions, Minnesota will be hampered with some key components on the defensive side of the ball. Feeling too much offense from the Cougars, MyBookie is favoring WSU (-10) points over MINN with an over/under of 61.0 total game points scored.
Playing the spread, I will favor the Cougars MINUS the points (-10) over Minnesota for the win as my betting pick.
