A pair of first-place teams will highlight this big four-game series in the Pacific Northwest as the Boston Red Sox and Seattle Mariners will begin a weekend-series at Safeco Field that has the following betting lines from our best sportsbooks for our U.S. players;
Best Red Sox Line: MyBookie ML -140 Spread -1.5
Best Mariners Line: MyBookie ML +120 Spread +1.5
Over/Under: 5Dimes 8.5
Both the Red Sox (47-22) and the Mariners (44-24) enter this crucial series holding on to the top-spot in their respective divisions that can change quickly by week’s end. Boston enters with a one-game lead over the New York Yankees in the AL East, while Seattle is feeling the heat of the defending World Series champion Houston Astros who sit just one-half game back in the AL West. And in the race for a division crown, it is the four mentioned teams that have the stronghold for who will win their divisions come the end of the regular season.
For the visiting BoSox, they enter having won seven of their last 10, including their last three, while the Mariners have done one better with wins in eight of their last 10, including four straight.
The highest scoring team in baseball with 354 runs heading in, the Red Sox have a 1-2 punch behind outfielder Mookie Betts who came off the 10-day disabled list this past Monday as he is sporting a league-leading .352 batting average and teammate J.D. Martinez and his 22 homeruns… second best in the American League.
Taking a look at the pitching matchup to get this series started, the Red Sox will hand the ball to southpaw David Price and his 7-4 record with a 4.00 ERA as he will square off against right-hander Felix Hernandez and his “subpar” 6-5 mark and career-worst 5.70 ERA.
The Seattle bats will have their hands full in trying to get to Price as he enters with a 5-0 record over his past six trips to the hill. Against the Mariners in seven career starts, Price is 3-1 with a 2.62 ERA. As for Hernandez, he has been anything but “King Felix” this season where in five of his past seven starts has been shelled for four runs or more. Hernandez is hoping a solid outing versus one of baseball’s best can help get him in the right direction where in 19 career starts is 8-4 with a 4.01 ERA.
The energy level will be high for both teams in what may be an ALCS preview, though early. And while the Red Sox were expected to be contenders this season heading in, the Mariners have surprised many with their impressive record thus far.
As for sports betting purposes for our US players, the sportsbooks, including MyBookie is favoring BOS (-140 ML) over SEA with 5Dimes delivering the over/under with 8.5 total runs scored. Siding with the bats on this one, I will favor the OVER of 8.5 total runs scored as my best betting bet where to put your money in what should be an entertaining game.
