National Football League: Preseason Week 3 NE vs. CAR
New England Patriots (2-0, 0-0 away) at Carolina Panthers (2-0, 1-0 home) August 24, 2018- 7:30 PM ET Bank of America Stadium, Charlotte, NC
Hitting the road for the first time this preseason, the New England Patriots will travel into Charlotte to take on the Carolina Panthers in a Friday night matchup that has the following NFL football odds from our USA sportsbooks;
The current public NFL consensus is in favor of the Panthers with a -125 moneyline.
Coming off a 37-20 home victory over the Philadelphia Eagles in a game that saw Tom Brady and Brian Hoyer combine for 204 yards through the air with three touchdowns and zero picks, the Pats will now hit the road as they seek to remain undefeated in the preseason.
Brady looked go as ever with 26 pass attempts and is expected to see action again in Week 3 before taking a seat in the final exhibition game next week before the season starts. However, with the rash of injuries that have hit the New England starters of late, let’s see how much time Brady and other star players see?
The Patriots are at .500 over their last six preseason games which really means nothing to them as they are expected to challenge for the AFC East crown once again.
As for Carolina, they moved their record to 2-0 in the preseason after coming away with a 27-20 victory over the Miami Dolphins; a game that saw star QB Cam Newton and backup Taylor Heinicke combine for 177 passing yards, one pick and one TD.
The Panthers in the win got some good offensive production from RB Christian McCaffrey with 92 rushing yards on just five carries along with one touchdown, while receivers Ian Thomas and Curtis Samuel combined for 100 yards receiving with one touchdown.
In their first two exhibition games, Carolina has totaled 747 yards with 55 points scored and while the defense still seeks to improve, Newton in his limited play appears all but ready to get the 2018 season going as they look to compete for an NFC South title.
Impressive as any in the preseason, the Panthers should get more of a test versus the Patriots, but let’s see how much playing time the starters see in what will be their warm-up game.
For sports betting purposes on this NE vs. CAR matchup from our best sportsbooks, BetNow is favoring the Panthers (-1.5) points over New England with MyBookie putting the Over/Under at 46.0 total game points scored.
