National Football League: Preseason Week 2 NYJ vs. WAS

New York Jets (1-0, 0-0 away) at Washington Redskins (0-1, 0-0 home) August 16, 2018- 8:00 PM (TV ESPN) FedEx Field, Landover, MD

A Thursday night preseason matchup under the lights should provide plenty of entertainment as the New York Jets will pay a visit into FedEx Field to do battle against the Washington Redskins in a Week 2 exhibition contest that has the following NFL betting odds from our USA sportsbooks;

REDSKINS JETS
Moneyline
+113 -133
Spread
+2.5 -2.5
Total
39.5 39.5

The current public NFL consensus is in favor of the Redskins with a -133 moneyline.

The Jet may have finished with a 5-11 record last season but after their impressive Preseason Week 1 win, they may have reason to be hopeful heading into 2018 after the performance of rookie QB Sam Darnold out of USC. Aside from the 17-0 blanking over the Atlanta Falcons, Darnold threw for 96 yards on 13-for-18 and a touchdown.

Will Darnold win the starting position and be the future of the Jets, a team that has failed to make the postseason in seven consecutive seasons? It was a decent start for the Jets last year at 3-2 but saw it quickly unravel as the season went on. If New York can at least avoid a another last-place finish in the AFC East, that may be reason alone to celebrate?

Doing no better in the NFC East, the Redskins are coming off a 7-9 year as they finished in third-place in the division. Expecting a better year, Washington was hit with some bad news as rookie RB Derrius Guice has a torn ACL.

Kicking themselves after blowing a 17-point lead to fall to the New England Patriots 26-17 on the road, the Skins will look to finish strong and build some confidence as they head into their preseason home opener.

Backup QB to Alex Smith, Colt McCoy looked impressive throwing for 189 yards on 13-of-18 along with two touchdowns.

Prediction/Pick

The duo combination of Teddy Bridgewater and Darnold looked good in Week 1 but let’s see how they do on the road? Can McColt have another solid performance? Going to our top-rated sportsbooks for this NYJ vs. WAS matchup, MyBookie is favoring the home Redskins (-2.5) points over New York with Bovada laying the over/under at 39.5 total game points scored; a number I will play as I will favor the UNDER of 39.5 total game points scored as my best NFL betting pick.
