College Football: ORST vs. OSU

Oregon State Beavers (0-0) at #5 Ohio State Buckeyes (0-0)

September 1, 2018- 12:00 PM ET (TV ABC) Ohio Stadium, Columbus, OH

Kicking off College Football Saturday, let’s go out to Columbus as the Oregon State Beavers will travel into Ohio Stadium to square off against the No. 5 Ohio State Buckeyes for an afternoon affair that has the following lines from our college football odds page;

Ohio State Buckeyes Prediction Oregon State Beavers
+15000 -45000
+38.5 -38.5
63.5 63.5

The current public NCAAF Picks consensus is in favor of the Buckeyes with a -45000 moneyline.

Meeting for the first time in 34 years, the Beavers and Buckeyes will square off for the start of the season. Heavy underdogs at (+38.5) points from the books, Oregon State will need to play a near perfect game to have any shot in this one, despite the negative press surrounding the Buckeyes.

Taking over the head coaching duties at Oregon State is Jonathan Smith, who will look to bring some respectability back to the program as the Beavers have won just seven games over the last three years. Back at quarterback will be Jake Luton who returns after suffering an injury that cut his season short last year. Luton will be surrounded with some familiar faces which should help the offense improve over last season, but the defense has plenty of question marks as they will need to make stops.

For Ohio State, they enter the new season as national contenders once again as they are on a six-game winning streak following a 24-7 easy win over USC in last year’s Goodyear Cotton Bowl. Nothing short of winning the Big Ten Conference championship is what is expected from Ohio State fans even with a new quarterback at the helm in Dwayne Haskins, who replaces J.T. Barrett.

Haskins will be flanked by sophomore running back J.K. Dobbins, who is coming off a season in which he rushed for 1,403 yards and seven touchdowns and talented receivers. On defense, Nick Bosa will lead a unit that is fast and is a force at making plays in the backfield.

Despite the absence of head coach Urban Meyer, who is suspended for three games, this should be a cakewalk for the Buckeyes, who have dominated the Pac-12 of late and seek their 15th straight opening-season win. Going to the books for this ORST vs. OSU matchup, BetNow is favoring the Buckeyes (-38.5) points over Oregon State with an Over/Under of 63.5 total game points scored from 5Dimes.

With too much talent versus a bad Oregon State team, I will favor Ohio State MINUS the points (-38.5) over the Beavers as my best betting pick.
