Group Stage C: PERU vs. DEN
Peru vs. Denmark June 16, 2018 12:00 PM ET (TV FOXS1) Mordovia Arena
Continuing our action in the 2018 World Cup, we will go out to Mordovia Arena in Russia for a Saturday afternoon East Coast time match between the countries of Peru taking on Denmark in Group Stage C action. Meeting for the first time in history, the betting lines are as follow from our best sportsbooks;
The first test in opening Group C action for the Peruvians and Danes will be a crucial one as both sides will want to earn as many points as possible with France the heavy favorite to advance.
For Peru, the South American country will be highly motivated to perform well as they make their first appearance in the world’s biggest stage after a 36-year absence. For Denmark, they are led by playmaker and leader Christian Eriksen but understand though favored, will be challenged by team captain Paolo Guerrero and his Peruvian squad.
But, for the Peruvians, there was an air of uncertainty surrounding Guerrero and his availability for the World Cup due to a doping suspension. Cleared by a Swiss court to play, Guerrero will be eager to showcase his talents along with a Peru team that can be dangerous with their fast pace and skill. Peru looked impressive in their World Cup warm-up versus Sweden but will need to find a way to contain Eriksen or it may be a long contest?
Led by Danish head coach Age Hareid, he has instilled a different style of play from previous coach Morten Olsen electing to attack more directly by moving the ball up quickly and attacking from there. Peru will also need to be aware of Denmark centers Simon Kjaer and Andreas Christensen who are both known for their rugged style of play.
Prediction/Pick: Both physical in their own right, which team will be able to capitalize on each others mistakes the best? Peru will have plenty to prove with their first trip in over three decades but so will Ericksen with second World Cup appearance. For sports betting purposes for this PER vs. DEN matchup, MyBookie has Peru (+234 ML) with Denmark (+135 ML), while 5Dimes delivers the over/under with 2.0 total game goals scored. Expecting this matchup to be physical and close to the end, I will favor the UNDER of 2.0 total game goals scored as my best betting pick.
