National Football League: Preseason Week 3 PHI vs. CLE
Philadelphia Eagles (0-2, 0-1 away) at Cleveland Browns (1-1, 0-1 home) August 23, 2018- 8:00 PM ET (TV FOX) FirstEnergy Stadium, Cleveland, OH
Moving into Week 3 of the NFL preseason as we inch closer to the start of the 2018 season, Thursday night action will take us out to FirstEnergy Stadium as the Philadelphia Eagles and Cleveland Browns will square off in a contest that has the following NFL odds.
The current public NFL consensus is in favor of the Browns with a -160 moneyline.
After losing 37-20 to the New England Patriots last week while seeing QB Nick Foles sustain an injury to his throwing shoulder, it is expected the Super Bowl MVP will be back in action according to head coach Doug Pederson. With test results revealing nothing more than a mild strain and being back on the practice field this past Sunday, Foles has been cleared to play.
Foles was seeing action for the first time this preseason when he went down in the second quarter and did not return as he went just 3-of-9 for 44 yards. Starting QB Carson Wentz is close to returning but has not been cleared for contact by the medical staff. Running back Darren Sproles will also sit out once again as he is coming off reconstructive knee surgery.
While the Philadelphia starters are likely play the first half against the Browns, Pederson’s concern in just to get his veterans healthy and ready for the start of the season.
Coming off a 19-17 defeat at the hands of the Buffalo Bills, the Browns look to bounce back with a bit better play from quarterbacks, Tyrod Taylor and Baker Mayfield. Both QB’s are battling for the starting gig as they combined for just 97 passing yards with zero touchdowns and no picks. Running back Carlos Hyde rushed for 64 yards with one touchdown.
Philadelphia has dropped four of their last six preseason games, while the Browns have won five of their last six games in the exhibition season.
Better play from both sides is what both teams will be gunning for as we should see an entertaining contest. For sports betting purposes for this PHI vs. CLE matchup from our top-rated sportsbooks, MyBookie is favoring Cleveland (-3) points over the Eagles with BetNow delivering the Over/Under with 41.0 total game points scored.
Feeling the home team in this one, I will favor the Browns MINUS the points (-3) over Philadelphia to cover the spread as my best betting pick for this NFL match.
