With starting QB Ben Roethlisberger slated to rest and backup signal caller Landry Jones out of action with an abdominal injury, the reigns will be handed to Josh Dobbs, who will get his opportunity to shine and prove himself to be the future of Pittsburgh.

With the 35-year old Roethlisberger rumored to possibly be hanging up his cleats at the end of the 2017 season, this can be an audition for the fourth-round draft pick in Dobbs to get it done as Jones in 16 career games has failed to impress.

Standout wide receiver Antonio Brown is also expected to sit out along with Roethlisberger. Running back Le’Veon Bell continues to be a hold out as he is unhappy with his contract.

Easy winners of the AFC North in 2016, the Steelers were knocked out of the postseason by eventual champion, the New England Patriots by a 36-17 score.

On the Giants side of the ball, their leader in veteran quarterback Eli Manning along with wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. will both take a seat on the sidelines for the preseason opener.

In place of Manning to start will be either Josh Johnson or Geno Smith, though, both quarterbacks will see plenty of action as they battle it out to be the No. 2 man behind Manning. Also new to the team is receiver Brandon Marshall who will be another added weapon for Manning to throw to.

The Giants finished second to the Dallas Cowboys in the NFC East in 2016 and will be in for another dogfight for the division crown.

While, it would be nice to get a brief look at the superstars in this contest, it is just preseason and both team’s coaching staffs will be more concerned with filling in the missing pieces to make their teams better.

For sports betting purposes for our US players, GTBets is favoring NYG (-3.5) points over PIT with an over/under of 37.0 total game points scored from MyBookie; a number I will play as I will favor the OVER of 37.0 total game points scored as my best betting pick.
