With a full slate of Major League games on the docket in what is Opening Day 2017, let’s go out to Chavez Ravine as a team expected to do big things in the Los Angeles Dodgers will play host to the San Diego Padres in an afternoon matinee that has the following betting lines from our best sportsbooks;
Best Padres Lines: BetOnline ML (+315) Spread +1.5
Best Dodgers Lines: 5Dimes ML (-365) Spread -1.5
Over/Under: MyBookie 6.0
Pegged by many to be there in the Fall Classic come October, the Dodgers will open their 2017 campaign with high expectations as they will the hand the ball to their ace in left-handed hurler Clayton Kershaw.
Los Angeles will take the field under the guidance of Manager of the Year, Dave Roberts, who helped guide his team to within two wins of winning the NL Championship Series last season against eventual champion, the Chicago Cubs.
However, it was a bitter defeat for the Dodgers as they were unable to solve the Chicago bats after being up 2-1 with home field on their side. With that now in the past, all the Dodgers can do is focus on what’s ahead as they have gotten stronger with their off-season acquisitions.
With depth added to their everyday lineup and a pitching staff that is back healthy with Kershaw leading the way, the Dodgers have to be feeling good and confident about what’s ahead in 2017?
To get it started on the Dodgers journey, they will hand the ball to Kershaw, who will be making his seventh consecutive Opening Day start to tie Dodger greats, Don Drysdale and Don Sutton.
Out of action for over two months last season with a back injury, Kershaw finished 12-4 with a 1.69 ERA and will be making his fourth Opening Day start against their division rival where he is 3-0 with three runs on nine hits allowed in 16 innings.
For San Diego, they are coming off a last-place finish of 68-94 in the NL West as they have recorded six straight losing seasons.
With not much expected from the Padres in the way of being competitive, they will send newly acquired Jhoulys Chacin to the mound, a right-handed hurler who went 6-8 with a 4.81 ERA.
With all the makings to win it all, the Dodgers must now put it all together on the field. For sportsbetting purposes, 5Dimes is favoring LAD (-365 ML) over SD with an over/under of 6.0 total game runs scored from MyBookie.
This is a matchup with Kershaw on the hill where I will play the spread of (-1.5/-145) from the Dodgers over San Diego for the win as my best betting pick.
