College Football: SDSU vs. STAN
San Diego State Aztecs (0-0) at #13 Stanford Cardinal (0-0)
August 31, 2018- 9:00 PM ET (TV FS1) Stanford Stadium, Stanford, CA
Big game on tap under the lights on Friday as the San Diego State Aztecs will travel north to do battle against the No. 13-ranked Stanford Cardinal in a matchup that has the following odds from our College Football Lines page;
The current public NCAAF consensus is in favor of the Cardinal with a –550 moneyline.
Following a successful 10-3 year only to lose 42-35 to Army in their bowl game, the Aztecs will enter the new season with high expectations as they look for a Mountain West Conference crown. Opening up their season, however, will be no easy task for San Diego State as they must face a ranked opponent on the road in Stanford, who enter as a two touchdown favorite from the books.
Despite the underdog tag in this matchup, the Aztecs like their chances behind what will be another strong running game with RB Juwan Washington ready to fill the shoes of last season’s All-American in Rashaad Penny.
San Diego State averaged 252.5 rushing yards per game last season and will look for more of the same behind the offensive line. Quarterback Christian Chapman returns for his senior year and is more than capable of completing passes when needed to keep the offense moving.
With seven returning starters, the Aztecs were a top-40 defense last season allowing 20.2 ppg all making for what should be a well-balanced team on both sides of the football.
Stanford for their part enter their 2018 campaign on a two-game losing streak following losses to USC in the Pac-12 Championship and a 39-37 defeat to TCU in the Valero Alamo Bowl finishing the season with a 9-5 record.
Looking ahead to the new season, the Cardinal couldn’t be happier with the return of RB Bryce Love, who last year rushed for 2,118 yards with 19 touchdowns. A Heisman Trophy runner-up last season, Stanford will gear their offense behind the talented ball carrier. QB K.J Costello will be back under center with plenty of talent around him. While, the Cardinal offense should be in good shape, questions do surround the defense, who lost two key players.
Prediction/Pick: With powerful running games from both teams, we should be treated to a great game as the one we witnessed last season with the Aztecs winning 20-17 over Stanford. For sports betting purposes for this SDSU vs. STAN matchup, BetNow is favoring Stanford (-14) points over the Aztecs, while Xbet is giving the visitors (+14.5) points. MyBookie sets the Over/Under at 48.5 total game points scored. Feeling a close one, I will favor San Diego State PLUS the (+14.5) points to cover the spread as my best betting pick.
