The Battle of Missouri will be set to begin on Monday night at Kauffman Stadium as the St. Louis Cardinals and Kansas City Royals will square off with more than state bragging rights on the line in an Interleague showdown that has the following betting lines from our best sportsbooks;
Best Cardinals Lines: GTBets ML (-117) Spread -1.5
Best Royals Lines: GTBets ML (+107) Spread +1.5
Over/Under: MyBookie 9.0
In what will be a home-and-home series with the Royals set to play host for the first two games before the series shifts to St. Louis on Wednesday and Thursday, Kansas City and the Cardinals have more on the line than state bragging rights as both teams find themselves very much in the postseason hunt.
While the Cardinals at 55-56 find themselves on the outside looking in 8 games back of a wildcard berth in the National League, they are just 3 ½ games back of first-place of the Chicago Cubs in the Central Division. With chance of a wildcard spot maybe being too much to overcome, the Redbirds only chance to make the postseason will be to win the Central.
Kansas City at 57-53 are holding onto the second wildcard spot in the American League are firmly entrenched in a dogfight. The Royals are 2 games back of the New York Yankees for the top wildcard berth but know they must keep winning as they are just one-half game up on the Tampa Bay Rays and 1 ½ games up on the Seattle Mariners.
Both interstate rivals head into this series on winning streaks with the Cards having won their last two and the Royals coming off a win of their own.
For the pitching matchup to get this first of four started, the visiting Cardinals will hand the ball to right-hander Carlos Martinez, who is 7-9 with a 3.59 ERA on the year versus right-hander Ian Kennedy with his 4-7 record and 4.60 ERA.
Martinez has thrown eight shutout innings against KC but is still in search of his first win, while Kennedy has been rocked by the Cardinals sporting a 3-5 record with a 7.20 ERA in eight career starts.
With Kennedy having his problems against Cardinals, can the KC bats find some success of their own against Martinez? For sports betting purposes for our US players, GTBets is favoring STL (-117 ML) over KC with an over/under of 9.0 total game runs scored from MyBookie.
Putting my confidence in the visitors, I will favor the Cardinals in a MINUS (-117) moneyline win over Kansas City as my best betting pick.
