December 1, 2017- 8:00 PM ET (TV ESPN) Levi’s Stadium, Santa Clara, CA
With college football championship weekend upon us, let’s kick it off with the Pac-12 Championship Game on Friday night at Levi’s Stadium as the No. 12 Stanford Cardinal and No. 10 USC Trojans will do battle in a contest that has the following betting lines:
Best Cardinal Lines: 5Dimes Spread (+4) ML +170
Best Trojans Lines: MyBookie Spread (-4) ML -195
Over/Under: BetOnline 58.0
With any chance of a College Football Playoff berth out of the question, it should not damper the action we will see on the field when both these conference powers take to the turf as they will play for a berth in one of the New Year’s Six bowls; Fiesta, Peach or Cotton.
The Cardinal and Trojans already met back on Sept. 9 with the Men of Troy laying it on Stanford with a 42-24 home victory; a game in which USC outgained the Cardinal 624-342.
In that initial matchup, USC running backs Stephen Carr and Ronald Jones II each rushed for over 100 yards to help pace the Trojans to an easy win.
And, while Carr has been hampered by a foot injury much of the second half of the season, Jones has been on fire running the ball having gained 1,346 yards over his last four games.
USC with a 10-2 record (8-1 Pac-12) enters this championship game coming off a much-needed bye week after playing in 12 straight. Stanford (9-3, 7-2) for their part will be playing on a short week after taking down Notre Dame 38-20 at home.
Stanford running back Bryce Love (168.0 YPG) has been slowed down by ankle injuries of late meaning redshirt freshman quarterback K.J. Costello will look to help guide the Cardinal to victory.
Sam Darnold will be under center once again as he will seek to help deliver the Trojans their first Pac-12 title.
Stanford has won the Pac-12 championship three times in the last six games as overall, the Pac-12 North is 6-0 since 2011; the inaugural year of the conference title game.
This is a game that will match the physicality of the Cardinals versus the athleticism of the Trojans; who will win out?
For sports betting purposes for our US players, MyBookie is favoring USC (-4) points over STAN with an over/under of 58.0 total game points scored from BetOnline. In staying with the winner of the first meeting, I will favor the Trojans MINUS the points (-4) over Stanford for the championship win as my best betting pick.
