College Football: AAC UCF vs. UCONN
#21 Central Florida Knights (0-0, 0-0 Conf.) at Connecticut Huskies (0-0, 0-0 Conf.) August 30, 2018- 7:00 PM ET
(ESPNU) Pratt and Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field East Hartford, CT
Ready to get it started on what will be the opening weekend of college football, Rentschler Field will be the site for an American Athletic Conference clash between the No. 21-ranked Central Florida Knights and Connecticut Huskies in a matchup that has the following NFL betting lines from our USA sportsbooks;
The current public NCAAF consensus is in favor of the Knights with a -2300 moneyline.
After coming off what was a successful 2017 season in which they went undefeated at 13-0 and made a strong case for a College Football Playoff bid, the Knights of UCF will open up their 2018 campaign on the road versus a (-23) point underdog UConn team seeking to pull off the major upset.
While, the new season is expected to be much more of a challenge for UCF with a new head in Josh Heupel, who was the offensive coordinator at Missouri, it helps that back under center will be QB McKenzie Milton and his arsenal of offensive weapons. Running backs Adrian Killins and Otis Anderson, as well as receiver Dredrick Snelson will help lead the charge with Milton as the field general. The junior quarterback is coming off a huge year in which he threw for 4037 yards with 37 touchdowns and nine picks.
And, though, the UCF offense is expected to light up the scoreboard early and often, it is the defense that will need to follow suite as they lost a ton of talent on that side of the ball.
For UConn, they are coming off a 3-9 year and have found little success in the way of wins over the past few seasons where they have won three games or less in four of their last five seasons. The offense will be led by QB David Pindell and running back Kevin Mensah, who is their best player on offense.
Defensively, the Huskies were amongst the worst on that side of the ball last season and don’t have much expectation of being much better.
Tough matchup for the Huskies out the gate in this one where they will need to put together a near perfect game to pull off the upset. For sports betting purposes for this UCF vs. UCONN matchup from our best sportsbooks, BetNow is favoring the Knights (-23) points over Connecticut, while MyBookie is giving the home Huskies (+23.5) points. BetOnline has set the Over/Under at 73.0 total game points scored.
With too much fire-power on the Central Florida side of the ball, I will favor the Huskies MINUS the points (-23) over UConn to cover the spread as my best betting pick.
