College Football: USU vs. MSU
Utah State Aggies (0-0) at #11 Michigan State Spartans (0-0)
August 31, 2018- 7:00 PM ET (TV BTN) Spartan Stadium, East Lansing, MI
Friday night college football action will take us out to East Lansing for a contest between the visiting Utah State Aggies and No. 11-ranked Michigan State Spartans in a matchup that has the following betting lines from our NCAAF Odds page;
The current public NCAAF consensus is in favor the Spartans with a -2400 moneyline.
At more than a three touchdown underdog, the Aggies of Utah State will have their hands full when they open up their season with a tough task on the road against Big Ten opponent Michigan State.
Following a year that saw them finish at 6-7 after suffering a 26-20 overtime bowl defeat at the hands of New Mexico State, the Aggies will seek continued success heading into the new success with returning QB Jordan Love under center. Off and on in seeing playing time last season, Love threw for 1,600 yards with eight touchdowns. Backed by five returning offensive lineman and a potential star running back in the making in junior college transfer Darwin Thompson, Utah State is geared to surpass their 30.2 points per game average from last year.
The defensive side of the ball lost some key players but do have the benefit of defensive back Gaje Ferguson and linebacker Suli Tamaivena back on the field to help anchor that side of the ball.
For the Spartans, they are coming of a double-digit win season that saw them finish 10-3 after handing Washington State a 42-17 defeat in their bowl game. Michigan State behind head coach Mark Dantonio have finished with at least 10 wins in six of their last eight seasons and will once again will be in the mix for a Big Ten title.
Back calling the signals with more experience will be QB Brian Lewerke as he will be flanked by running back LJ Scott and receivers Felton Davis and Darrell Stewart. On defense, the Spartans will be just as good as any in the country with nine returning starters.
The Utah State offense will face a stiff test from the Michigan State defense as they are as stingy as any in allowing points. For sports betting purposes for this USU vs. MSU matchup from our best sportsbooks, BetNow is favoring the Spartans (-23.5) points over Utah State, while MyBookie is giving the visitors (+24) points. BetOnline delivers the Over/Under with 51.5 total game points scored.
With just too much depth and talent backed behind a solid defense, I will favor Michigan State MINUS the points (-23.5) over the Aggies to cover the spread as my best betting pick.
