College Football: WASH vs. AUB
#6 Washington Huskies (0-0) at #9 Auburn Tigers (0-0)
September 1, 2018, 3:30 PM ET (TV ABC) Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta, GA
Easily the best matchup on Saturday as Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta will be the site for a pair of top-10 teams being tested in their season openers. The No. 6 Washington Huskies and No. 9 Auburn Tigers will collide in an afternoon matchup that has the following betting lines from our best College Football odds;
The current public NCAAF consensus is in favor of the Huskies with a +115 moneyline.
Coming off a 10-3 season in which they dropped their Fiesta Bowl game to Penn St. by a 35-28 score, the Huskies enter the new year seeking a repeat of a Pac-12 North Division title as QB Jake Browning returns for his senior year.
Browning for the second straight year has lost his top receiver meaning all eyes will be on WR Chico McClatcher to see if he can step up and be the “go-to” guy as he is dealing with an ankle injury. In the backfield to help carry the load will be RB Myles Gaskin, who will be looking to add big numbers to his already 4,055 career rushing yards.
On defense, the Huskies were amongst the best in the nation allowing just 16.1 points per game and 8th in total yards against. Tops in the Pac-12 on that side of the ball, Washington returns nine starters as they will look to be just as good as last year’s squad.
Auburn also enters coming off a 10-win season taking home a share of the SEC West Division crown but fell to Georgia in the championship game by a 28-7 score and then losing in the Peach Bowl to UCF by a score of 34-27.
Quarterback Jarrett Stidham returns to lead his offense where is coming off a season in which he threw for 3,158 yards. Stidham was dealt some bad news with the loss of receivers Eli Stove and Will Hastings to injury but will have his main target in Ryan Davis ready as he is coming off a season in which he caught 84 passes. Kam Martin and his 6.1 yards per game average will be in the backfield.
The Auburn defense lost some key pieces but still have enough depth to cause problems for the opposition but would like to see some improvement in forcing interceptions where they accounted for just 6 the entire year.
This will be a fun one to watch and should provide plenty of entertainment on what will be a neutral field. For sports betting purposes for this WASH vs. AUB matchup from our top-rated sportsbooks, BetOnline is favoring the Tigers (-2.5) points over Washington, while MyBookie is giving the Huskies (+2.5) points.
Bovada delivers the Over/Under with 48.0 total game points scored; a number I will play as I will favor the UNDER of 48.0 total game points scored as my best betting pick feeling this game will be controlled by the defenses of each team.
