Major League Baseball: NLDS- Game 4 WSH vs. CHC
Best-of-5: Game 4 CHC Leads 2-1
Starting Pitchers: WSH- Roark (RHP) CHC- Arrieta (RHP)
Washington Nationals (97-65, 50-31 away) at Chicago Cubs (92-70, 48-33 home) October 11, 2017- 4:08 ET (TV TBS) Wrigley Field, Chicago, IL
It was Mother Nature who won out on Tuesday in Game 4 of the NLDS as she forced the postponement of this all-important matchup. Faced with needing a win or seeing their season come to an end, the Washington Nationals will seek to stave off elimination when they square off against the Chicago Cubs in Game 4 of the NLDS on Wednesday night in a matchup that has the following betting lines;
Best Nationals Lines: 5Dimes ML (+150) Spread +1.5
Best Cubs Lines: SportsBetting ML (-157) Spread -1.5
Over/Under: MyBookie 7.5
Rather than start the game and face burning up the starting pitchers in case of a delay, MLB decided it was best to wait another day. But, with that said… the stakes remain the same.
The Cubs are one win away from putting away the Nationals after a nail-biting 2-1 victory at home on Monday to take a 2-1 series lead. It was a dramatic win in Game 3 and one that is sure to be another dozy when both teams take to the Wrigley Field turf on Wednesday.
With Game 4 on the line for the Nationals, they will hand the ball to right-hander Tanner Roark (13-11, 4.67 ERA) who will have the weight of the world on his shoulders to produce a victory, but in the same sense is sure to be on a short lease as “all hands on deck” will be on standby. Washington manager Dusty Baker had considered going back to Stephen Strasburg for Game 4 if pushed to Wednesday, however, will stick with Roark in what will be the most important start in his career.
Roark went 1-0 against the Cubs this season with a 2.84 ERA and in seven career starts versus the Cubbies is 4-2.
For Chicago, they will hand the ball to right-hander Jake Arrieta, who will have the task of keeping the potent Washington lineup at bay. Arrieta on the season went 14-10 with a 3.53 ERA,
but now will be asked to help get his team back to the NLCS.
Hampered by a right hamstring injury late in the season, Arrieta insists he will be ready. In head-to-head starts versus the Nats, Arrieta went 0-1 this season and overall is 1-2 in nine career starts with a 5.48 ERA.
The winner of this series will face a well-rested Dodger team in the NLCS starting on Saturday in Los Angeles.
With an extra day to think about it, the pressure will be on both pitchers to keep this game close and give the offense a chance to win. For sports betting purposes for our US players, SportsBetting is favoring CHC (-157 ML) over WSH with an over/under of 7.5 total game runs scored from MyBookie.
With the sense of urgency high in this one, I will favor the OVER of 7.5 total game runs scored as my best betting pick.
