National Football League: Preseason Week 1 WAS vs. NE
Washington Redskins at New England Patriots August 9, 2018- 7:30 PM ET Gillette Stadium, Foxboro, MA
Back on the field since being defeated in last season’s Super Bowl, the New England Patriots will welcome in the Washington Redskins in Week 1 of NFL preseason action at Gillette Stadium with the following NFL betting lines from our best online sportsbooks ;
After a 7-9 season in which they have seen their win total fall for the third consecutive year, the Redskins will need to turn the corner in what may be a do-or-die season for head coach Jay Gruden and his coaching staff?
Needing a change under center, the Washington brass went out and acquired Alex Smith from the Kansas City Chiefs as they feel he may be the leader to get them over the hump. Thrown into a new offense from what he ran back in KC, Smith may get more playing time in the preseason to get him fully ready to lead his team. Backing up Smith will be a battle between Kevin Hogan and Colt McCoy, who will seek to cement their spot behind Smith.
With starting needs on both sides of the ball, this preseason will be an interesting one for the Skins as they look to make their mark in the 2018-19 season.
On the New England side of the ball, how will they bounce back after suffering a tough Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles? The offense will once again be built around superstar, veteran Tom Brady, though, we can expect very little action from him in the preseason. Up there in age, many believe, including Brady himself that he still has plenty in the tank to be an effective NFL quarterback… we shall see.
Head coach Bill Belichick is a master at finding the right players to fit into his system and this season will be no exception for the Pats who will seek to make a return trip back to Super Bowl, but they will need to protect and keep Brady healthy.
Belichick is big on keeping his starters limited in the preseason so don’t expect much of seeing the star players on the field. Washington will want to come out and build some confidence on the road. For sports betting purposes for this WAS vs. NE matchup, MyBookie is favoring New England MINUS (-3.5) points over the Redskins, with Bovada delivering the Over/Under with 37.0 total game points scored.
Taking the visitors in this one, I will favor the Skins PLUS the points (+3.5) to cover the spread as my best betting pick.
