College Football: WYO vs. NMSU
Wyoming Cowboys (0-0) at New Mexico State Aggies (0-0) August 25, 2018- 10:00 PM ET Aggie Memorial Stadium, Las Cruces, NM
Late night college football action is on tap for Saturday as the Wyoming Cowboys and New Mexico State Aggies will clash in a matchup in Las Cruces that has the following NCAAF betting lines for this game.
The current public NCAAF consensus is in favor of the Cowboys with a -170 moneyline.
Underdogs at home by as much as +4 from some of our best books, the Aggies will look to pull off the “upset” as they will face Wyoming in the season opener. This matchup will mark the first meeting for both teams since 1953, but should provide some entertainment as both squads enter with a winning 2017 season.
Finishing with an 8-5 record after recording a 37-14 victory over Western Michigan in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl, Wyoming will seek another winning campaign under head coach Craig Bohl. Much of the success of the Cowboys over the last two seasons was due to QB Josh Allen, who has now taken his talents to the NFL, meaning the success of Wyoming in 2018 will come down to QBs Nick Smith and Tyler Vander Waal.
Smith and Vander Waal will be surrounded be a talented receiving corps but lost top rusher Trey Woods to graduation. Another key component coming in for the Cowboys will be the defense as they forced a nation-leading 38 turnovers last season.
For New Mexico State who went 7-6 last season, they have left the Sun Belt Conference to join the ranks of the Independents. Capturing the Arizona Bowl with a 26-20 overtime win over Utah State, it was the Aggies first bowl bid in 57 years.
New Mexico State will lean on the front four of their defense as the anchor of the team after losing starting QB Tyler Rogers and RB Larry Rose III to graduation; two holes that need to be filled or it may make for a long season?
BetNow delivers the Over/Under with 45.0 total game points scored. With health and depth being a concern on the New Mexico State side of the ball along with two talented QBs and a defense on the Wyoming side, I will favor the Cowboys MINUS the points (-3.5) over New Mexico State to cover the spread as my best betting pick.
